The “Sadness Searches for its Place” project was exhibited as part of the dual exhibition “Chasing Wind” at Gallery 51 in Modi'in, Israel.
Curator: Alfa Haimov.
“Each artist began her work process inspired by text. Roni Ben Porat composed the following:
Sadness searches for its place.
It searches in every corner of the space, the house. In no place is it comfortable; it remains for a moment, attempting unsuccessfully to find its place, and continues on its way.
It was searching for a place to stay but nowhere was it wanted, nor was it comfortable. So, it continued to search. Leaving footprints behind.
The sadness is a kind of ghost, that comes suddenly, remains for a while, and continues to search for the next sad place.
In her installation, Ben Porat tells the story of Sadness as an allegory of restless memories and mourning. She uses multiple collage works on paper hung in a dense display around the gallery walls. The route of Sadness through the home (and the soul) is shown in the collages. The route takes on the shape of the gallery space, with the blueprint of the gallery displayed at the center of each of the collage works, that are identical in form and their location on the paper. The collages form a long row around three walls of the gallery at an identical height and are equally spaced.”
